Beagle Club of Queensland Walks
Several times a year the Beagle Club of Queensland conducts Beagle walks for club members and Beagle enthusiasts alike. The walks have been held at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, about 1 1/2 hours drive from Brisbane, Southport Spit on the Gold Coast, and Daisy Hill State Forest about 20 minutes south of Brisbane City and Mount Coot-tha which overlooks Brisbane. Our newest walks are through Brisbane city which included the Botanical Gardens, the Goodwill Bridge and Southbank, and the Redcliffe Peninsula Beach Walk.

Brisbane City Gardens and Southbank Walk 18th July 2010
It was a picture perfect day in Brisbane for our walk around the Brisbane City Botanical Gardens and Southbank. Although the morning was a little cool, the skies were blue and the day was soon to warm up. There were 25 beagles and a couple of our regular honorary friends for the walk. Thanks to our new participants in the walk. We hope you enjoyed the outing. From the base of the Kangaroo Point cliffs, we walk to the Goodwill bridge for our photo snap before heading to the Brisbane City Gardens for a break. From there it's back across the bridge and along the Clem Jone Promenade at Southbank and in among the curious public who marvelled at the sight of the pack walking through the park lands. If you haven’t been on one of our walks before, I would encourage you to consider coming along to a future walk as these are always lots of fun for all involved. |
Southport Spit Beach Walk 11th April 2010
After the first two walks for the year being cancelled due to rain and also the possibility of a tsunami, is was great to finally get all our four footed friends together for a walk on one of our most popular walks. The weather was very kind to us finally and the 25 beagles and their owners that turned up for the day took advantage of this. We always get lots of comments from the others who use the beach at Southport about the spectacle of a pack of beagles, sniffing and playing as we walk south to Main Beach. One thing we often hear is how happy the beagles are together in a pack. Seeing this number of beagles, running and playing together is what owning a beagle is all about. We also had a couple of people who had recently migrated from Spain and who had beagles in Spain who commented on what a great sight it was to see so many beagles enjoying themselves. It is great to see many of our beagle owners have trained their beagles to be able to run off lead. Southport is a great opportunity for people to practice and become comfortable with having their beagles off lead. There were lots of games played – chasing, running and jumping through the small channels of water at low tide. A few more adventurous beagles decided to become friends with a surfer who had packed up for the day and decided to follow him through the dunes and back to the car but they were all eventually tracked down. After a brief stop just before the Main Beach surf lifesaving area, we headed back to the sand pumping jetty and to the park for some morning tea and a good chat about our beagles. If you haven’t been on one of our walks before, I would encourage you to consider coming along to a future walk as these are always lots of fun for all involved. |
