We had a record number of beagles attend the glorious beach walk on the Southport Spit at the Gold Coast on a beautiful Sunday in April. Our record before this was 49 beagles – just under the 50 mark but this day saw us have a pack of 55 sniffing, playing and merry hounds.

From about 8:30 the pack began to congregate. It was a welcome sunning day after many months of clouds and rain, so no wonder the beagle lovers and their owners came out in force. As we assembled in the car park at the end of the Spit, there were many curious onlookers who couldn’t believe the number of happy hounds.

As we do at each walk on the Spit, we headed out to the sand pumping jetty for a photo of the pack before travelling south towards Main Beach. There are more and more beagles who are able to play off lead, which is a real positive of the walks, as it’s always great to see them running and playing as a pack.

After a walk south of about 40 minutes, we stopped for a rest, a swim and the mandatory dig in the sand, before heading back to the car park.

A lovely morning tea followed where the beagles could rest and their owners could have a good chat.

Thanks to everyone that turned up for this most enjoyable walk.
